Can Nasa pay into my spouse’s/partner's pension account?
We can only make salary sacrifice payments into pension accounts in your own name - not your spouse's, partner's, or family members' accounts.
Why this rule exists?
It's all about how salary sacrifice works legally:
Tax Relief Rules 🏛️
- Salary sacrifice gives you immediate tax and National Insurance relief.
- HMRC rules state this relief can only apply to your own pension contributions.
- Someone else's pension = no tax relief for you = not salary sacrifice.
Employment Law 💼
- You're our employee, meaning that we can only sacrifice your salary for your benefits.
- Your spouse isn't our employee, so we can't make employment-related contributions to their pension.
Pension Regulations 📜
- Pension providers can only accept employer contributions for their own account holders.
- Your spouse's provider would reject payments from your employer anyway.
- Anti-fraud measures prevent payments into accounts you don't own.
While we can't pay into your spouse's pension, maximising your own salary sacrifice creates more household income for joint financial goals!
