Do I need to complete a self-assessment (tax return)?

Although you will pay Tax and NI at source via the umbrella, you may still be required to complete a self-assessment.

HMRC will generally contact you if you are required to complete a self-assessment, and being employed by an umbrella does not automatically mean either way that you do or don't need to complete one.

It is however mandatory to complete a self-assessment if you receive a taxable income over £150k in a single financial year, you can find out more information here to check if this applies to you. There may be other factors too that mean you'll need to complete one, such as secondary self-employed incomes, property income, dividend payments and foreign taxable income.

Should you be required to complete a self-assessment, you'll be able to use your P45 (if you leave mid-tax year) or P60 (issued at the end of the year) to complete this, as this will show your total taxable income and tax paid throughout your employment with Nasa Umbrella Ltd.

Still operating a LTD Company?

As a Director/shareholder of your LTD Company, you will need to complete a self-assessment which should include your employment income through the umbrella company as well as any salary or dividends from your company.

Stand Alone Services

We are pleased to be able to offer a discounted Self-Assessment service to our current umbrella customers, so if you would like some more information about this please contact us via sales@nasagroup.co.uk or go directly to your Account Manager, and they will be able to assist.

It's important to note that self-assessments are still your responsibility to complete and submit on time, and you should ensure that you agree with the figures that Nasa proceed to submit. Nasa Consulting submit self-assessments via 3rd party software directly to HMRC, but this does not mean we are acting as your agent (like when operating as an accountant for a limited company, for example). HMRC will therefore not speak to Nasa on your behalf, and we will not be able to query anything on yours.
